I received my training as a psychotherapist at The Centre for Training in Psychotherapy. I have been with the Spadina Therapy Centre for 12 years and I practice psychodynamic therapy.
So what is psychodynamic psychotherapy? At its most basic, two people meet regularly in a safe, quiet place to engage in a dialogue generated by one of them - you (the client), based on your concerns, fears, pleasures - whatever is foremost in your awareness. In this private, nonjudgmental environment, you are invited to explore your unique way of being; your long held, unarticulated assumptions about yourself and the world, with the aim of alleviating distress, fostering change and accessing a fuller life. Together we become aware of the unconscious patterns that shape and limit the way you are in the world.
I am not threatened by strong emotions or deep pain. I, too, grapple deeply with the paradoxes and struggles of being human and I am willing to be affected by the therapy. I will not let theory or preconceptions get in the way of appreciating the unique aliveness of a particular client.
