Emotion-oriented Body Work
Emotion-oriented body work uses touch, massage and other somatic (body) work to explore the connection between body and mind. This work provides a safe environment in which emotional release is supported. While touch is primary to the work, verbal techniques such as active listening and reflecting back, bringing awareness to body signals, affirming statements of support and possible suggestions for reframing may also be used.
Who can benefit?
Anyone can benefit from emotion-oriented bodywork. It can be particularly beneficial for:
- survivors of physical, emotional or sexual trauma
- people who suffer from eating disorders
- anyone who experiences discomfort with issues of body image or touch
- anyone with puzzling physical symptoms which have no medical explanation
- those who feel emotionally blocked
Our approach
As emotion-oriented body workers, we see our role as facilitating the healing process by helping each person to explore their own unique mind/body connection. This knowledge will help with the integration of their physical and psychological selves. We believe that each person comes to us with unique problems that call for unique solutions. Respect, support, client safety, and a clear understanding of boundaries are the primary considerations in our work.
